Workshop To Improve Quran
Recitation

Begawan - A four-day workshop on improving al-Quran recitation
is going on until March 27 at SEAMEO Voctech in Gadong.
Its opening ceremony was held at the
Plenary Hall of International Convention Centre (ICC) on Thursday.
Guest of honour was the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Jawatan
Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr. Ustaz Haji Awang Mohd Zain bin
Haji Serudin.
The ceremony started with an al-Quran
recital presentation by Ustazah Dr. A. Hajah Maria Ulfah M.A. from
Indonesia. It was followed by an opening speech by Haji Ali bin Tahir,
the chairman of the workshop.
Tausyekh
presentation by participants later brightened the ceremony even
further.
The workshop is being held to improve
the quality of al-Quran recitation of the participants in Brunei
Darussalam to produce professional and competent Qaris and Qariahs
(male and female al-Quran readers) as well as to be able to compete in
al-Quran reading competitions at an international level. This can help
improve the image of Brunei and at the same time train new talents in
this profession.
The workshop aims to increase the
understanding and knowledge of participants on Tajwid, Fasahah and the
vocal singing of the al-Quran.
This workshop, sponsored by the
Centre for Studies and Propagation of al-Quran, Islamic Eminence
Development and Communication Section, Ministry of Religious Affairs,
involves 34 participants.
They include Qaris and Qariahs
involved in the quarter finals of competitions in the past three years
and had achieved marks of 80% and above, Qari and Qariahs involved in
national and international semifinals and finals, winners of al-Quran
reading competitions between ministers the past two years and winners
of international level al-Quran youth reading competitions the past
two years who have turned 18 this year as well as those having
potential in participating in such competitions.
Participants are guided by
experienced facilitators from overseas. They are Dato' Haji Hasan bin
Haji Azhari from Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Haji Said Agil Husin Al-Munawwar
MA, from Indonesia and Ustazah Dr. A. Hajah Maria Ulfah MA, from
Indonesia. --
