Visit To Kampung Melayan Longhouse

Begawan - Some 120 officials from various government
departments including 70 participants of the Dakwah Basic Course
visited the Kampung Melayan longhouse in Belait District.
The visit was conducted by the
Islamic Dakwah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
According to head of the Belait
Dakwah Unit, Hajah Hanisah binti Abdullah, the aim of the visit was to
give an opportunity to course participants to know each other better
and at the same time, to foster and enhance closer ties with the
residents and the longhouse community.
It was also to give an opportunity to
the delegation and course participants, especially to those who have
never visited Kg. Melayan longhouse, to gain experience and knowledge
of the way of life of the people living in the interior areas. Fresh
water fishponds, cultivated and livestock farms, owned by the village
community were visited by the delegation.
They also held the 'Fardhu Maghrib'
prayer at the longhouse and had dinnertogether with the village
community.
Hajah
Hanisah thanked the village head, Ah Joup Anak Rading, and the
longhouse community for the warm welcome and cooperation extended to
the delegation during their stay at the longhouse.
"You can visit the villages to buy
fresh water fish, local rice, jungle produces, and many more," she
said adding that it will help improve the community's socio-economic
status in the village. Acting Assistant Director of Islamic Dakwah
Centre, Awg. Haji Mohammad bin Garing, as well as other officers from
the centre were also part of the delegation. --
